Windcatcher

ARCH 6603 - Profs. Matthew Johnson and Roya Plauche
This pavilion was designed for Burnett Bayland Park in the Gulfton neighborhood of Houston, TX. A middle eastern technology, the scoops channel wind downward creating a breeze inside the tower base. Weather data from Hobby Airport and Bush Intercontinental Airport indicated that wind was primarily from the South and Southeast  during the summer months, so the scoops are all oriented in that direction.
